If you're from Indiana, you've got to love national spring conventions in warm-weather places. Tom Gayda, North Central High School, celebrates the San Diego sun and surf with Kim Green, Columbus North High School. Gayda and Green are IHSPA officers. Lisa Morris, Connersville High School, (above right) accepts a Pacemaker for the 2003 Cohiscan yearbook. Green, IHSPA president (left), presents a session about "core values" along with other IHSPA officers.

Indiana publications perform well
in Pacemaker, Best of Show competitions

Indiana publications led the way in Pacemaker and Best of Show competitions at JEA/NSPA's spring convention in San Diego last week. Yearbooks from Connersville and Danville high schools grabbed Pacemakers while five Hoosier staffs distinguished themselves in the Best of Show contest.
The Connersville Cohiscan and Danville Tom Tom won yearbook Pacemakers. Lisa Morris and Sarah Neblett advise these two award-winning publications. Both are IHSPA officers.
Three newspaper staffs, one literary magazine staff and one broadcast staff from Indiana took home Best of Show honors. The Timberlines staff from Greenwood; the Hyphen staff from Jeffersonville, and the Trojaneer staff from Center Grove all won Best of Show. The "Etchings in Thought" literary magazine from North Central High School won a Best of Show and the WAM (Woodman AM) broadcast staff from Greenwood High School captured a Best of Show as well.
Denise Roberts advises Timberlines and WAM. Jolie Lindley advises the Hyphen staff and Casey Tedrow advises the Trojaneer newspaper staff. Tom Gayda advises the literary magazine at North Central.
Last November in Washinton D.C., The Northern Lights (North Central High School) and The Spartana (Homestead High School) won newspaper Pacemakers. Gayda advises the Northern Lights and Rod Kuhn advises The Spartana.
The IHSPA extends congratulations to all these winners and finalists in both the fall and spring national conventions. Well done, Hoosier staffs.
