5 students, 1 adviser share $6000 in scholarships

Amber McGowan, a senior at Franklin Community High School, was the big winner in IHSPA's scholarship program which awarded $6,000 to five students and one teacher.

McGowen, who will attend Franklin College in the fall, was awarded a $1,500 renewable "Undergraduate Scholarship." McGowen currently is editor-in-chief of her high school newspaper, The Electron.

Four Franklin College journalism majors received scholarship renewals. Each student originally won their scholarships as incoming freshmen.

Sarah Miller, Ryan Moore, Kyle Gorman and Marina Hennessy received $1,000 scholarships for their work on student publications at FC.

Jolie Lindley, newspaper adviser at Jeffersonville High School, was awarded a $500 Master Teacher scholarship to pursue graduate work at Indiana University this summer. Lindley is working on a "self help" book for beginning publications advisers.
