Judge’s edited issue: Vol. 48 Issue No. 4
Positive comments:
•A true broadsheet newspaper that uses all the space to its best interest
•Nice dominant front page photo and story
•Good teaser box downs the side complete with photos – reefer the 599 steps to an inside story
•Page 2 – nice news briefs, but boring photos on Police work to increase security- go with two photos, not four. Good story idea, but not necessary to run all those photos.
• Great story on Brainard becoming principal for a day – good to see politician reacting to students
• Liked Greyhound Sports at a Glance
• Nice mix of reviews
• Good content coverage
• Loved the Page 16 photo
• Nice to see back page used as a display page
• Good writing, good leads
Constructive criticism comments:
• Get rid of the art beside web site, email, phone number at top of page.
• Page 5 – Second story has dominant headline – if headline runs dominant, so should story
• Disliked school calendar on a sports page – can you move it elsewhere?

• Photo reproduction is not great – example, Page 7, photo is very dark. Little contrast.
• Nice spread on diversity in your doubletruck, but head was hard to read• Photo reproduction quality needs work – example, Page 12
• Move editorial so it follows news
Comments: It’s obvious that a lot of time and effort go into this newspaper. You should be proud – first-class act.
